The Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority warned residents Thursday that a scammer is claiming to be calling on behalf of the utility and calling customers.
“The caller threatens the customer with shut off and demands immediate payment by phone,” said a message from Chris Theodos, executive director of the BTMUA. “Brick Utilities cannot currently accept payments by phone. We can only accept in-person or online payments at this time. We will never demand payment by phone.”
Such calls are not coming from the MUA, Theodos said. If any residents have a suspicion that a call about their bill from Brick Utilities is not legitimate, they are being advised to hang up and call the BTMUA office to speak to a representative about their bill at 732-458-7000.
