All the stores in the Brick Plaza shopping center have reopened following a morning gas leak, authorities said.

At aboug 10:44 a.m., a gas leak was reported behind LA Fitness in the shopping center, Brick Police Sgt. Jim Kelly said. The leak was the result of a contractor striking a gas meter.

Police and EMTs responded along with fire personnel from the Pioneer Hose, Breton Woods and Laurelton fire companies, as well as the Fire Safety Bureau. New Jersey Natural Gas responded quickly and was able to shut the gas off to stop the leak, Kelly said. Surrounding stores in Brick Plaza were evacuated and checked for residual gas that may have accumulated.
