Two Democrats will mount a challenge against two incumbent Republicans in this year’s race for seats on the Ocean County freeholder board.
Jean Czarkowski, of Lexington Avenue in Toms River, and David T. Wright, of Forge Road in West Creek, will seek to unseat incumbent Republicans Jack Kelly, of Thomas Avenue in West Creek, and Virginia Haines, of Batchelor Street in Toms River.
Czarkowski works in education and Wright is an attorney.
Also, Gene Davis, of Llewellyn Court in Jackson, will challenge incumbent GOP Sheriff Michael Mastronardy, of Swain Avenue in Toms River.
Mastronardy was the longtime Toms River police chief before being elected to the countywide post. Davis is a former school board and councilman in Linden, Union County, who recently gave up a potential run for the state legislature.
