Detectives are investigating a possible murder-suicide in Brick after an elderly couple was found dead in their home.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that Brick police on Monday were dispatched to a residence on Club House Road to conduct a welfare check on the residents there. Upon entering the home police found an 80-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man inside the residence. Both had sustained a single gunshot wound and were pronounced dead at the scene.
There was a large swath of police activity centered on 165 Club House Drive Tuesday morning. The “early stages of the investigation” have revealed that the man shot his wife before taking his own life, said prosecutor’s office spokesman Bryan Huntenberg.
“The crime scene has been contained and there is no danger to the public,” he said.
Ocean County tax records show 165 Club House Drive is owned by Richard and Alma Shaver, 79 and 80, respectively.
