A pedestrian was killed and a passenger of a car suffered minor injuries in an accident on Route 88 near Post Road in Brick Township Saturday night around 10:15 p.m.

According to Sgt. Keith Donnelly, John Metevier, 44, of Brick, was traveling west on Route 88 between Bruce Street and Post Road in a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette when the pedestrian, Arthur Burke, 72, of Point Pleasant Beach, was attempting to walk across Route 88 (south to north), approximately 100 feet east of Post Road, directly in the path of Metevier’s car.

Metevier, the Corvette driver, attempted to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to do so, and struck him with the right front bumper of the vehicle, Donnelly said.  The impact caused the pedestrian to strike the windshield, and as the Corvette began to slow, the pedestrian fell from the vehicle, onto the curb and grass area on the side of the road.
