Toms River native Todd Frazier has been traded to the New York Mets by the Texas Rangers, baseball sources confirmed Monday, following the trade deadline that saw the struggling Mets acquire three players to help keep hope alive for a playoff berth.
Frazier, who played for the Mets from 2018 to 2019, will be headed back to his former team, though the role he will play in the remainder of the shortened season was not clear.
“I’m not aware of any of the acquisitions,” said Manager Luis Rojas during a post-game press conference Monday following a 5-3 loss against the Miami Marlins. “I haven’t met yet with anybody; I went to my office, then straight here.”

Met General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen was expected to make a statement on the acquisition of Frazier, as well as reliever Miguel Castro from the Orioles and backup catcher Robinson Chirinos, also from the Rangers.
Frazier rose to fame after leading Toms River East American Little League team to a world championship in 1998. He has since played professionally in the Reds, Yankees, White Sox and Mets organizations, as well as his latest stint with the Rangers.
