An artery that moves traffic between the western and eastern section of Brick Township will be repaved and have its traffic signals replaced and optimized, Ocean County officials said Wednesday.

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners will award a $1,870,313 contract to Earle Asphalt to repave Shorrock Street between Route 70 and Beaverson Boulevard at their meeting next week. The work is expected to begin later this year after asphalt plants reopen.

Ocean County Engineer John Ernst said the 1.67-mile thoroughfare will be paved. The work is a major undertaking since, in some areas, there are as many as five lanes present. The road will be fully reconstructed “from the curb at Beaverson Boulevard up to Route 70,” Ernst said.
