A brewery has submitted an application to the Brick Township planning board to open in the space of the former Shore Restaurant Supply company on Route 88 in Brick.

According to planning documents, Ever Upward LLC, ****, is proposing “a brewery complex with associated parking, landscaping” and other minor improvements to the property at 2045 Route 88. The planning board notice did not divulge the name of the brewery – only the corporate name of the underlying business – however it has long been rumored that the Icarus Brewing, currently located in Lakewood, will be moving in.

According to state tax records, Ever Upward LLC is owned by Jason Goldstein, the founder of Icarus. Shorebeat reached out to Icarus for comment last week but did not receive a reply. The current Icarus location, on Swarthmore Avenue in Lakewood, offers a tasting room and beer garden. The pet-friendly business offers a wide range of beers, from a 10.3 percent ABV Belgian Quad to a citrus-flavored hoppy IPA known as “Yacht Juice.” The company also sells merchandise, kegs and hosts events.

The land use application calls for relief from several minor zoning requirements, including a 30-foot setback where 50-feet is normally required, and a rear yard setback of 25-feet where 50 is normally required. The application calls for a reduction in impervious lot coverage from 89.5 percent, which currently exists on the site, to 75.6 percent of the property; a variance is still required since the local ordinance calls for a maximum of 65 percent coverage.

A hearing on the application is scheduled at the Aug. 25 meeting of the township’s planning board. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the municipal complex on Chambers Bridge Road.
