Across the nation on Oct. 2, a series of rallies are planned to focus on women’s rights and reproductive rights. Toms River is the location of one such event, Stand UP for Reproductive Rights, to be held at Huddy Park.
The hosts are the Ocean County Young Democrats, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey, and Emma Mammano, Democrat candidate for state Senate – District 10.
The timing of the rallies is aligned with the reconvening of the Supreme Court, which is October 4.

Nationally, the efforts are called the Oct. 2 Women’s March.
“On October 2, we’re marching in every single state ahead of the Supreme Court reconvening on October 4. Women’s March and more than 90 other organizations, including National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, Planned Parenthood, SHERO Mississippi, Mississippi in Action, Access Reproductive Care-Southeast, The Frontline, Working Families Party, and SisterSong, are organizing a national call to mobilize and defend our reproductive rights” according to the national organizing site.
Locally, event organizers are encouraging participants to “bring your signs and your voices,” to the 2 p.m. Oct. 2 event, to the downtown park, 39 E. Water Street in Toms River.
Though it is the only Ocean County Women’s March event listed on the national website’s roster, Monmouth County has two — Red Bank at 1 p.m. Oct. 2 and in Keyport at 11 a.m. Oct. 3.
