Brick police were seeking the help of the public to turn up witnesses that could shed light on a motorcycle accident that occurred Wednesday night, injuring a township resident.

The accident occurred Wednesday night at about 7:43 p.m. on Brick Boulevard, just south of the major intersection with Route 70, Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

According to police, a 1999 Harley-Davidson motor cycle, being driven by Charles Leone, 57, was in the right lane of travel, turning left onto Brick Boulevard southbound from Rt. 70 West. An unknown vehicle making the same turn, but traveling in the left lane, is alleged to have made an unsafe lane change in an attempt to enter the jug handle for Rt. 70 East.

That vehicle cut off the motorcycle, police said, causing the driver to brake hard and attempt to lay the motorcycle down. Leone was ejected from the motor vehicle, sustaining injuries to his face and head.

The victim was taken by ambulance by Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment. Traffic on Brick Boulevard southbound from Route 70 was detoured for approximately 90 minutes during the investigation.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by Ptl. David Thergesen, of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Witnesses on scene reported the unknown vehicle may have been a newer white colored Jeep Cherokee, Kelly said. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information related to the crash is being asked to contact Thergesen at 732-451-2037.
