Thursday’s weather system that moved through the region spawned strong thunderstorms and reports of potential tornadic activity in many parts of New Jersey, but the Shore dodged the worst with only a few showers and wind.
The high winds, of course, were exacerbated at the shoreline. “Ocean-style” waves occasionally grew in the bay, Manasquan Inlet was awash in breaking waves and crashing swells, and the ocean’s roar sent water flying underneath Casino Pier.

The Friday forecast, according to the National Weather Service: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7am, then a slight chance of showers between 7am and 5pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
