The National Weather Service is forecasting a rainy start to Memorial Day weekend – far from a washout, but not a full stretch of warmth and sunshine as hoped.
Following a breathtaking sunset Wednesday night, clouds will move into the region on Thursday, with a slight chance of showers or drizzle after 2 p.m., the NWS forecast said. The high will be near 65 degrees.
On Friday, there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., but otherwise mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. It will also be breezy, with a south wind moving at 15 to 20 m.p.h. Rainfall will be limited to about a quarter of an inch except in areas affected by thunderstorms. Friday night will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm for the rest of the overnight hours. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain, the NWS said. A half-inch of rain is possible.
A chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue into Saturday, where it will otherwise be mostly cloudy, with a high near 72 degrees. After a 40 percent chance of rain during the day, skies will begin to clear overnight. The sun returns Sunday with a high near 70, and continues into Monday with a high near 74 degrees.
