There were shades of summer in both the air and on the water Wednesday night, as local residents emerged (quite en masse, by the way) to enjoy some warmth and sunshine after a largely overcast day. They were treated to a spectacular display, which we were able to catch as well after one of the three local meetings we covered.
But trouble – in the form of rain and some wind, at least – is on the way, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday will remain mostly sunny with a high of 67 degrees and a slight wind of 5-10 m.p.h. Clouds will move in overnight, however, with the temperature dropping to 48 degrees and a large swath of rain poised to move in to the Shore area.
According to the NWS forecast, Friday will bring periods of steady rain, mainly after 11 a.m., with a high near 59. An aast wind will move 5 to 10 m.p.h., but increase as the day goes on. About a quarter-inch of rain will fall during the day.

The system will intensify Friday night with periods of rain and a low around 47. Northeast wind 10 to 15 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 30 m.p.h. are forecast. A full inch of rain is possible overnight.
Periods of rain will continue during the day Saturday, with a high near 50. It will be windy, with a northeast wind of 15 to 20 m.p.h., increasing to 25 to 30 m.p.h. in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 45 m.p.h. Another deluge of rainfall between a half and three-quarters of an inch is possible. Saturday night will bring only more periods of steady rain, however the precipitation will diminish to showers after 2 a.m. Sunday.
For Mothers Day on Sunday, the NWS is forecasting showers, mainly before 8 a.m., followed by mostly cloudy skies the remainder of the day, with a high near 56. It will continue to be breezy with a 60 percent chance of rain at some point during the day.
The sun will return, unfortunately, just in time for Monday.
