Clouds began moving into the Shore region Thursday night around sunset (as captured in our quick video above) and represented the first signs of a weather system that is forecast to produce a rain-soaked weekend driven by winds gusting to 50 m.p.h.
According to the forecast from the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, rain will move in during the day Friday, mainly after 1 p.m. Patchy fog will also be present. The high will be near 56. A south wind of 5 to 15 m.p.h. will turn east in the afternoon. Between a quarter and half of an inch of rain is possible.
Conditions will become more “nautical” Friday night, with a layer of fog moving in amidst steady rain. Overnight, between 1-2 inches of rain will fall, the NWS forecast said. Winds will creep up to 25 mp.h.
Saturday will likely see the worst weather of the weekend. It will be windy, with a northeast wind sustained around 30 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 50 m.p.h. or more, especially adjacent to the ocean and Barnegat Bay. Another three-quarters of an inch of rain are forecast to fall during the day Saturday. The conditions will continue into Saturday night, with the wind maintaining its power and another half-inch of rain falling. The overnight low will be 47 degrees. Minor coastal flooding is possible on Saturday and Saturday night during periods of high tide.

In the latest forecast, the NWS is predicting some rain will continue into Monday, although in the afternoon, with partly sunny skies breaking through during certain periods of the day.
