High temperatures and humidity will return to the Shore area this week on the heels of a rainy Monday and a clear Tuesday that ended in a hazy, warm summer sunset (as seen in the video we captured Tuesday, embedded above).
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from 11 a.m. Thursday morning to 8 p.m. Friday night. According to the advisory statement, heat index values from 100 to 104 degrees are expected, which could cause heat-related illnesses to those who remain outdoors.
“The highest temperatures and heat indices are expected to occur on Thursday,” the statement said. “Low temperatures in the mid 70s Thursday night will not provide much relief from the heat.”
The NWS is calling for a high of 96 degrees Thursday and 92 degrees Friday for mainland portions of Ocean County, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 80s along the ocean. It will be sunny with light wind both days, though the NWS forecast calls for the chance of a thunderstorm in the late afternoon hours Friday.
The advisory ends Friday night, though Saturday is also forecast to be warm, with a high of 88 degrees. As it currently stands, however, Saturday will see clouds and a 40 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the morning, with clearing in the afternoon.
