Thursday night produced a dark thought – literally – at the Jersey Shore, as sunset occurred at 6 p.m. on the dot. Beginning Friday, the sun’s last rays of the day will shine in the 5 p.m. hour for the first time: at 5:59 p.m. We caught Thursday’s sunset and put together some of our favorite shots in the video embedded above.
The weekend will also bring in chillier temperatures after a mild week. According to the National Weather Service, Friday‘s high temperature will be just 57 degrees, with the day beginning with sunshine and ending with gradually increasing clouds. The overnight low will be a chilly 47 degrees. On Saturday, mostly sunny skies will be combined with a high temperature of 59 degrees. Sunny skies will continue Sunday, though clouds will begin to roll in during the afternoon. The high will be a few degrees warmer at 63.
The NWS has also issued a Coastal Flood Watch for the region, which will only run for one tide cycle on Friday. The watch is valid from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Some roads may flood at times of high tide. High tide at the Mantoloking Bridge in Barnegat Bay will occur at 2:48 p.m.
