Brick Township is expected to acquire a 3.2 acre property – about a third of which is underwater – as a donation from its owner.
The township council has unanimously to accept the donation of marshland off the Cedar Bridge Manor neighborhood. The marshland is located on a plot that fans out behind Eastern Lane, stretching to the upper portion of the Metedeconk River.
“It is marshland and cannot be built on,” explained Councilwoman Andrea Zapcic, who said the council’s land use committee recommended the acquisition. “This property has the added benefit of a prime location for the re-use of dredge materials.”

A publicly-owned parcel that can be used for dredge recycling is of particular value in Brick, since residents who need to remove clean sand from their lagoons can relocate it to approved areas. Last year, for example, sand from the Nejecho Lagoon off Mantoloking Road was recycled at Windward Beach.
“It will also add acreage to our open space preservation areas that adds to our CRS points,” Zapcic said, referring to the “Community Rating System,” a program run by FEMA that allows residents to receive discounts on their floor insurance premiums.
A public hearing and second vote on the ordinance accepting the donation is expected to occur at the March 28 meeting of the township council.
