Brick Township officials on Tuesday night introduced an ordinance to convey about a half-acre of land to an organization that will use it for housing low-to-moderate income tenants who are armed services veterans.
The parcel of land is located at 1701 Route 88, just west of The Home Depot on the opposite side of the road. Under the ordinance, the township will “sell” the land to Homes Now Inc. as a formality once grant funding is in place for Homes Now, a Brick-based group which provides housing for various populations in need. The organization will then compile the necessary permits, including land use board approval, and the complex can be built.
“The apartments are proposed to be one and two bedroom units,” said Councilman Vincent Minichino.

The apartments, if and when they are built, will be available to veterans who are income-qualified under the state’s affordable housing law.
The ordinance requires a public hearing and second vote at the council’s July 27 meeting.
