Brick Township formally adopted an increase to the rates its police towing contractors can charge for transporting vehicles and storing them in their lots.
Citing inflation, the council unanimously approved a 20 percent increase in rates after introducing the measure at a meeting earlier this month. The rates were last raised in 2016.
Brick Township utilizes a network of private towing businesses located in different parts of the township to tow vehicles for a variety of reasons, ranging from common traffic accidents, to DWI cases, to major criminal investigations. The vehicle is then stored at the private facility’s garage or lot, with security features, until it is retrieved either by an insurance company or its owner.
