A Brick Township police officer, contrary to initial reports, was injured during an incident in which a resident fired a gun at the officer before turning the weapon on himself.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday that after an initial statement had been released, it was learned that the officer did, in fact, suffer minor injuries to his arm from glass shards as a result of the shot fired at the windshield of his patrol vehicle.
The officer, who was not identified by name, was transported to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township, where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently released.

According to prosecutors, the incident played out Monday at approximately 8:40 a.m., when Brick police received a 911 call from a woman stating that she had been notified by her Ring doorbell camera that her ex-husband, identified as Corey Johnson, 28, of Brick Township, had broken into her residence on Judy Court in the Evergreen Woods apartment complex.
A joint investigation by local and county authorities found the woman left her place of employment and was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when she arrived at the parking lot of her residence. There she found Johnson, who had since exited the residence, pull his vehicle in front of the woman’s vehicle, thereby blocking her in, the statement said.
A Brick Township police officer soon arrived on scene, and as the officer exited his vehicle, Johnson exited his own vehicle and fired one shot in the direction of the officer, striking the windshield of the officer’s vehicle. He then turned the gun and shot himself in the head, though he survived and, at last report, was in critical condition at another hospital.
Authorities did not issue any further updates on the status of the Johnson.
“Additional information concerning this active and ongoing investigation will be released to the public when it becomes available,” the prosecutor’s office said.
