The weight limit for vehicles traveling on Van Zile Road in Brick Township will soon be reduced following the introduction of a new ordinance recommended by the Ocean County engineering office, officials said.
The township council introduced the ordinance last week, which sets the weight limit for vehicles traveling on Van Zile Road at 4 tons. Any vehicles above that weight will be prohibited from using the roadway.
Unless otherwise exempt by state law, any commercial vehicle weighing over 4 tons will be excluded from Van Zile, a roadway under country jurisdiction. The area covered by the ordinance is, effectively, the entire length of the roadway, from Route 70 to Burnt Tavern Road.
If the ordinance is passed on second reading, the Public Works department will install signage indicating the weight limit.
The ordinance is subject to a public hearing and second vote prior to final adoption. That vote will be held at the council’s next meeting, scheduled for Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at the township municipal complex.
