Municipalities were announcing the start of road salting operations Monday afternoon in anticipation of snow moving into the area during the evening and overnight hours.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Ocean County from 7 p.m. Monday night through 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the advisory said, forecasting snow Monday evening into the overnight hours. A change over to mixed precipitation is likely Tuesday morning.. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.”

Brick Township said its salting operations would begin during the afternoon Monday.
“Trucks will be salting Township roads beginning at 2 p.m. today we ask any resident that has the ability to move their car into their driveway to please do so,” the township said in an announcement.
The advisory warns of “total snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze,” though the total accumulations will be spread over a large number of hours, and heavy snow is not necessarily expected.

According to the officials NWS forecast, snow is likely to begin falling after 5 p.m. Monday. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible. Overnight, new snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible as the precipitation becomes more steady.
Another half-inch of snow could fall Tuesday, though the precipitation is forecast to change to rain sometime after 9 a.m., with the daytime high Tuesday reaching 40 degrees. Tuesday night’s low, however, will be a frigid 18 degrees, which raises concerns over icing.
