The Shore area seems to be a lucky place. It’s rare that more than a couple weeks go by without our reporting a major sum of money having been won from a lottery ticket sold locally. And while there’s no science to lottery, state officials in their end-of-year summary for 2023 listed a local store as having sold New Jersey’s most valuable ticket of 2023.
While multi-state lottery games have drawn headlines for mega-jackpots reaching into the billions of dollars, it was a traditional “Pick 6” ticket that won a lucky local an eight-figure haul. The ticket was sold on Aug. 14, 2023, and the winning numbers were: 10, 12, 21, 30, 38, and 45.
The largest ticket of the year was sold at Quick Chek #113, a convenience store sandwiched between Route 88 and Herbertsville Road just over the town border in Point Pleasant Borough.
Lottery officials did not name the winner, nor whether the jackpot was paid out. Lottery winners have been able to remain anonymous in New Jersey since a change to the state’s disclosure law in 2020.
