A group of Brick Township students and teachers who created a “Take a Toy, Return a Toy” bin that was placed at Brick Beach III last season is expanding the program to both of the township’s primary ocean beaches, and is seeking some fresh toys to start the season.

This year, the Mayor’s Student Advisory Committee is holding a Sand Toy Collection during May. A collection bin will be located in town hall until May 31 to accept donations of new, unused sand toys. The toys will be used to fill the beach toy boxes at Brick Beaches I and III this summer to ensure all young people have access to them, the township announced.

Beaches I and III have parking and recreational amenities. Brick Beach II is located between the other beaches and is primarily used by surfers and anglers.

Similar to the “leave a penny, take a penny” concept, kids can take toys from the bin to use on the beach and return them at the end of the day. They can also leave toys there for others to play with in the future. The program was initially started by the Emma Havens Young Elementary School Early Act Club, led by advisors Ms. Soltman and Mrs. Carone.

“The committee appreciates all donations and support,” the announcement said.
