A Brick Township man will serve a prison sentence following his entering a guilty plea for his role in a cocaine distribution operation, prosecutors said Friday.

Ezra Wheeler, 27, of Brick, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge David M. Fritch, to 10 years New Jersey State Prison after pleading guilty to possession of more than a half-ounce (but less than 5-ounces) of cocaine with intent to distribute. The plea came in connection with an investigation that took place in Brick Township in June 2023. Wheeler pled guilty to the charge before Fritch on July 15, 2024.

According to prosecutors, detectives from the Brick Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit established mobile and stationary surveillance on a residence on Coventry Court June 8, 2023 as part of an ongoing investigation. Detectives “observed Wheeler exit the residence and leave the area in a motor vehicle,” a statement said. Police then initiated a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle Wheeler was operating, where he was found to be in possession of approximately 18 grams of Cocaine.

Wheeler was taken into custody without incident.

A short time later, detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant on the residence. Investigators seized approximately 100 grams of cocaine and $19,300 in cash. Wheeler was transported to the Ocean County Jail, and subsequently released as a consequence of New Jersey’s Bail Reform Act.
