Brick officials this week unanimously approved the purchase of an additional bus for the Senior Service Department, which runs the township’s senior transportation services.

The council awarded a contract under the Ocean County cooperative pricing program to Robert H. Hoover and Sons, of Flanders, N.J., for the purchase of 2024 MicroBird G5 minibus, built upon a Ford chassis with a 7.3L V8 engine. The bus is capable of carrying 16 passengers. An example image of this model bus from a dealership appears embedded with this story.

The $150,194 bus is being funded through a state Community Project Grant which was received in 2023.

Brick’s Senior Shuttle service has grown quickly since its introduction in 2012. It provides free transportation to residents ages 60 and over. The schedule runs as follows:

  • Monday through Friday: Transportation to and from Brick Township Senior Center and Nutrition Program.
  • Monday through Thursday: Transportation to and from Brick Township shopping centers (Wal Mart, Shop Rite, Stop and Shop, dollar store).
  • Last Friday of each month: Ocean County Mall.
  • Available Fridays: Recreational trips to local points of interest.

Senior Shuttle rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents wishing to schedule a ride should call 732-920-8686 to schedule a ride. A brief registration will be required prior to using the service.

The township also offers a senior citizen dialysis transportation service that can be reached using the same phone number.
