The Brick Township council this week selected its leaders for 2025 as the government reorganized for the new year. The council also appointed new and returning members to the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority Board of Commissioners as well as the planning and zoning boards.

Councilman Derrick Ambrosino was unanimously selected by his colleagues to serve as council president, having been nominated by outgoing president Vince Minichino.

“He’s very passionate about what he does and he is committed to make Brick a better place,” said Minichino, describing Ambrosino. “He has deep roots here. His parents are here tonight, and his wife and him are raising their three kids here in Brick, in the school system.”

For his part, Minichino will retain a leadership role on the governing body this year, serving as vice president. Mayor Lisa Crate swore in both council members to their new positions.

The council also made several appointments to boards and commissions during its first meeting of the year, including boards that will be tasked with handling some of the township’s most pressing and controversial development applications. The council appointed Minichino to serve a one-year term on the planning board, representing the governing body. He will also serve on the board’s Architectural Review Committee.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment will retain three of its members whose terms expired Dec. 31, 2024. The council reappointed Wendy Evegan and Mike Jamnik to terms which will expire Dec. 31, 2028, and Jennifer Luddy to a term that will expire Dec. 31, 2026.

A former council member will continue on in her role as an MUA commissioner. Susan Lydecker was appointed to a five-year term as commissioner, expiring Dec. 31, 2030. Another former council member, Art Halloran, was appointed to serve a five-year term as an alternate commissioner. Both former council members are Democrats who served multiple terms on the council before stepping down.
