Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted six more long weeks of winter after seeing his shadow earlier this week, but the wait may give Brick residents time to bone up on their gardening skills in preparation for warmer weather ahead – and for the long term as the year goes on.
The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Ocean County will present “Ask a Master Gardener” at the Ocean County Library’s Brick branch on four different dates from winter through fall.
“Have specific questions about the types of plants that will grow best in your garden?” the event’s announcement asks. “Need help diagnosing and solving issues? Stop in for a chat and gain some useful gardening techniques.”

The 2025 presentations will be held:
- Monday, March 3, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Monday, April 28, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 23, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The Master Gardeners are trained, certified volunteers who assist the Rutgers Cooperative Extension staff in providing research-based information on sustainable horticulture to Ocean County residents.
The programs are free and open to the public, and no registration is required. For more information, officials say those who wish to attend can stop by or call the Brick Branch, 301 Chambers Bridge Road, at 732-477-4513. See the full schedule of Library programs in the online Calendar of Events.
