A fast-growing “drive through” coffee chain that launched in Arkansas in 2017 and has grown to more than 343 “coffee stands” nationwide, is on track to open its first New Jersey location in Toms River.

7 Brew Coffee, which takes its name from the original seven coffee styles offered in its first stand, is planning to open at 1358 Hooper Avenue, across the roadway from Target in the shopping center current anchored by DSW Shoes, Michael’s and Hand and Stone massage. The business’s owner, G7B LLC, is scheduled to present its case to the township’s planning board Wednesday night.

The company, according to a planning board filing, is proposing a 510 square foot free-standing coffee stand with a drive-through facility within the existing shopping center on the property. The new building will include parking spaces, signage, lighting, drainage control, and landscaping.

Planning board approval is required due to several variances associated with the proposal, including being unable to comply with a rule requiring that no area may be used for parking unless it is large enough to provide for at least three contiguous stalls. Other variances are required for a separation of 5-feet between curbed islands and parking spaces, where 10-feet is usually required, and a number of deviations from the township’s sign ordinance linked to the presence of menu boards and directional arrows for the drive-through lane.

7 Brew is built around serving home-brewed coffee and other drinks at rapid speed, within a friendly environment. Its first location opened in 2017 in Rogers, AR, and has quickly grown nationwide. The coffee stand’s menu includes its signature “7 brews,” with ingredients ranging from vanilla, to mocha, to caramel, to Irish cream, as well as traditional hot and cold-brew coffee plus teas, lattes, energy drinks, fizzy drinks, shakes and a slew of flavors and additions.

The Toms River location would be the chain’s first in New Jersey, though at least one other location has been proposed in Clark, Union County. The planning board hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the township municipal complex.
