A Toms River man charged with a plethora of criminal offenses following incidents in 2022 and 2023.

Dylan Panatero, 42, of Toms River, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Kenneth T. Palmer to seven years in state prison relative to a previously-entered guilty plea to robbery in connection with an incident that occurred in Beachwood on Nov. 2, 2023, and 10 years relative to his guilty plea for the Nov. 2023 assault and eluding case.

On Aug. 8, 2022, Toms River police officers responded to a residence for a report of an assault. An investigation by responding officers revealed that Panatero threatened the female homeowner and left the residence. Officers located Panatero at a residence in Beachwood where he was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Ocean County Jail, but released pursuant to New Jersey’s bail reform law.

On Nov. 2, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Beachwood police officers were called to the Sandcastle Diner on Route 37 for a report of a stolen vehicle. The officers discovered that Panatero met with a female acquaintance in the parking lot of the diner and forcibly removed her from her motor vehicle, prosecutors said. He then attempted to drive away, dragging the victim alongside the car. The victim sustained cuts and abrasions to her arms and legs.

Panatero then fled the area in the victim’s vehicle, and was thereafter initially charged with carjacking, burglary, theft, unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, and two counts of aggravated assault. A warrant for his arrest was issued, and his name was entered in the National Crime Information Center database.

He was caught Nov. 8, 2023 after being pulled over in Toms River in a vehicle reported stolen from Bridgewater, N.J. He again eluded police, speeding up to 90 m.p.h. on Fischer Boulevard before running a red light and crashing into another vehicle. Panatero was arrested at the scene; the driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries.
