Tommy’s Kitchen, an award-winning deli and catering shop in Brick known for its wide daily menu of fresh food items, will close at the end of the month, its owners announced over the weekend.
“With a heavy heart and five wonderful years of serving this incredible community, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors,” the store announced.
Tommy’s Kitchen is located at 365 Herbertsville Road, in the space that had long been known as Ma Ma D’s Deli, a legendary Brick business that operated for decades. Owned by George Hamill, the deli was once a major hub of activity along the corridor in northern Brick Township, with hot food served daily, newspapers from around the world stacked under the front counter, and staff members who customers knew for decades.

The deli was sold in 2006 and became known as Joey’s Neighborhood Deli, an offshoot of another deli in Manasquan, and was later sold to Tommy’s Kitchen, which forged its own good reputation at the site. There was no news as to what might replace Tommy’s. The 3,474 square foot building, built in 1950, has long housed a deli on its quarter-acre property. But it is now located in the township’s new “Village Zone” which promotes mixed-use development and tenancy.
The staff of Tommy’s Kitchen thanked their customers in the announcement.
“Though we are closing this chapter, the memories of mornings, laughter-filled conversations, and joyful celebrations will stay with us forever,” they wrote. “We are incredibly thankful for the connections we’ve made and the community we’ve had the privilege of serving.”
