Brick police said a pickup truck was following too closely behind a school bus when it rear-ended the bus on Cherry Quay Road Thursday morning.
The accident occurred at 8:21 a.m., police said in a statement, and involved a Brick Township public school bus. Police said “minor injuries” were reported as a result of the accident. Brick police officers, EMTs, as well as school officials went to the scene to ensure children were safely either picked up by parents or transported the rest of the way to school.
“This event serves as a critical reminder for all drivers to adhere to posted speed limits and exercise utmost caution during school hours, when buses frequently stop to pick up or drop off students,” police said in a statement. “The Brick Township Police Department urges residents to prioritize safety on our roads.”
