A South Toms River man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a violent crime scene by police who were called to a residence.
Gustavo Juarez-Perez, 38, of South Toms River, was charged with murder, as well as possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, all in connection with the death of his wife, Cheyanne Juarez, 30, also of South Toms River, on Saturday.
According to a statement from prosecutors, at approximately 9:15 p.m. Saturday night, officers from the South Toms River Police Department received a 911 call in reference to an unconscious female at a residence on Hummel Drive. Responding officers discovered a female victim, later identified as Cheyanne Juarez, unconscious on the floor with blood on her face and a belt around her neck.

Emergency lifesaving measures were attempted, however the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An investigation by borough police and county detectives revealed evidence that Gustavo Juarez-Perez was the individual responsible for his wife’s death, according to the statement. Juarez-Perez was taken into custody at the residence without incident. He was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.
