An Irish Pub style bar and restaurant will move into the former Simko’s Bar and Grill location on Brick Boulevard.

The township council recently approved a liquor license transfer from Simko’s to Mayo4Sam, LLC, which is connected to Blackthorn Irish Pub. A business by that name operates in Kenilworth, Union County, but the restaurant did not respond to a request for comment as to whether they were behind the Brick location.

The restaurant opening in Brick would be called P.J. Sweeney’s. A sign in front of the building is now advertising an Irish pub-style bar and restaurant opening soon there. On its Facebook page, the restaurant’s staff said it would be opening in June or July.

Simko’s, an American bar and restaurant, closed last year. It still operates its original location in Brielle.

Oh yea….just temporary I assure you…The hamburger joints in Brick Plaza are killing everything…the dumbing down of America continues.

The Blacktorn has been around for years and is across the street from McDonalds and only one building off Rt. 22 in Union which is hamburger and diner land of NJ.

      • Frank Rizzo

The Blackthorn is a bar and night club….and McDonalds are dying themselves. If you live here you will know that Red Robin and SmashBurger are filling up each night as people look for cheap meals and as their refinement wanes in our new everybody is poor and dumb culture except for the rich elites.

Good luck to PJ’s. I look forward to going to an Irish pub nearby.

I’m happy to hear this. I used to enjoy going to “Simco’s” for lunch with my mother. I would take her to the O.C. Mall and on the way home we’d stop for a bite and a Bloody Mary. It’s not as if we are building a new structure here, we are filling in an empty restaurant and that’s a good thing!

Didn’t care for that place. I believe they were originally in the Beach, then they bought out a place whose name I forget in Brielle. I guess that place is still there? Now that place had some great food and plenty of it for your money, but then things began to change, and never went back. Just like Charlie Browns also in Brielle way back? What is an Irish Burger?

      • Brandy the Dog

Let’s see, an Irish Burger, I really don’t know? At first I thought maybe a couple of slices of corned beef on it, but then I realized even corned beef isn’t Irish, it’s Jewish. The Irish aren’t really known for their cuisine, most people complain it’s rather bland (that goes for the rest of the British Isles as well). Irish Pubs seem to do well and usually have repeat customers and have simple but tasty foods.
I liked Simko’s, it was a decent and inexpensive place for lunch. The other one is still in Brielle, but I’ve never been there.
NJTV was in Point Pleasant Beach yesterday, they went to Jenkinson’s and The Broadway, they were just discussing hiring help for the summer.

See, now saying that Irish food is bland is just plain racist, Brandy. I bet you’re black and trying to sell drugs to young white people!!!! loljk- just wanted to say it before Frank did.

On a more serious note, burgers aren’t really Irish either. I used to live in London where there are no shortage of Irish pubs that only differ marginally from English pubs. I was always a big fan of shepherds pies, Sunday roasts and fish and chips. It isn’t as bland as people say and when there’s a bar it shouldn’t matter anyway! I still think that Guinness tastes better in the British Isles- it just isn’t the same a few weeks older and across a sea.

If you liberals want political correctness and feel good words…then use it across the board. It applies to my white skin as much as it does to any other. Please protect your religion and heritage as much as these special interst groups you liberal democrats have created over the last 30 years.

      • Brandy the Dog

Oh My JW, I was just getting ready to respond to you and Our Friend Frank beat me to it!! I thought he may be resting. I was going to say that he’d surely call me an intolerant liberal just adding to the dumbing down of America (he’s said that to me before), I was close though.
Yes, I like shepherds pie and fish and chips also. I’ve never been to the British Isles, but I’m more than fine with the taste of Guiness right here in the states. But, I do believe you when you say it tastes better there. Do they drink it at room temperature? I always hear stories they put cold ones on ice or the refrigerator for us Americans.

      • JW

Just my opinion on freshness. But no- it’s served cold, and they even have double extra cold taps for Guinness at certain pubs. The English drink ALE at room temperature. Real English ALE is hoppy and has almost no bubbles. It is also served from wooden barrels that the publican (aka barkeep) pumps by hand. Regular old laggers are normally served cold and bubbly though, and there is no shortage of imports even Budweiser and Fosters. I actually worked at a pub one summer. They don’t tip outside of America though. Take a trip sometime- it’s not as expensive a trip as people might think.

Frank- stfu. Nobody ever trashes you for being white. We trash you for being a spectacular moron.

        We liked it John.
