Brick Township has accepted a $1.1 million grant to reimburse a portion of the spending required to improve several parks in town.

The $1.1 million comes in the form of state Green Acres funding, and covers improvements to Herbertsville Park (formerly known as Colorado Park), Angela Hibbard Park and Lake Riviera Park.

Rebuilds of all three parks had been funded fully through the township’s capital budget. Click for more information on Herbertsville Park, Angela Hibbard Park and Lake Riviera Park.

Well the Herberstville park is just fantastic for moms and dads to play with there children..but it has come to a change in the quiet safe neighborhood of Nebraska ave..In just the past 2 weeks we have had attempts car break in…kids chased by neighbors…we have had kids coming up to neighbors asking do you smoke pot ..what to buy some….and on Christmas Day a trek bike stolen off of neighbors front porch…chased down by neighbors and recovered with police assistance….Councilman and police are aware of these events and there is a problem coming out of the basketball courts..So if you see anything that’s not right say something call police …don’t let them distroy our great neighborhood. Do something ! Everyone’s eyes and ears and concern is needed now.!

    • The new and improved Colorado Park (and it really is awesome) is the meeting place between teen degenerates. Just today I noticed that d-bags from the apartments that are thru the woods just hang out and beat the **** out of each other until the girls from the state streets show up to the park. Then they are one big happy, degenerate family once they are all there. Hardly the place I want my two kids playing. In fact, as soon as I saw they were rebuilding the park and basketball courts I already knew that degenerate turds from the apartments thru the woods would show up to ruin & eventually destroy the park. Don’t be shocked by bikes being stolen, vandalism, etc. Look who lives in those apts thru the woods. Shocking? Not.

See anything call police..just have to let them know they will not get away with there crap..

      • Smokin

Amazing having a great playground now for moms and kids and families to have fun…don’t let these families get scared to come and enjoy this park ..See something wrong call the police

Unfortunately, the basketball courts are a miscreant, minority magnet. I would have preferred the monies be allocated to leveling empty strip malls and code enforcement of residential junk heaps.

      • Spell Check

code enforcement in this town is pathetic. they go after homeowners for long grass. they need to hold the business’s of our town accountable. make these commercial properties have actual standards.

      • Smokin

Code enforcement just do what there told to do…from above management

      • KaayC

We have had this discussion previously Spell, If they go after people for grass it has been knee high for months. They should go after that. If owners cannot mow they should plant alternative shrubs or wild flowers or stone the property. When I can’t maintain, I will have to go condo. Decent people getting chased because of the lack of maintence so prevalent and unique to this town.

Drive down mantoloking the lot across from from the buy right is overgrown with weeds it must be several feet high way beyond knee height and has large concrete forms sitting there with no exaggeration probably have been in the state for a decade. I live right near this I see it every single day and that inspector that targets me and neighbors for nonsense. My grass was slightly overgrown, Do your research this practice is happening in other areas causing lawsuits against townships that do this to create more $$ for the township budget. I am under the belief that the commercial companies should be but in our town are not held to a higher standard than us homeowners. Make these places clean their act up and fine them. Look at the building on the corner of church and mantoloking. That used to be a quiet little business now that guy has debris and equipment and material all over a lot clearly not for such intent. No fence no nothing. no to mention that dumping site next door with the condemns structures.

      • KaayC

Not being facetious Spell, but have you actually called code enforcement? If you get no action, call the mayor’s office. The system is far from perfect we agree, but if it is as bad as you say they would have to act I would think.

      • Smokin

To many empty buildings probably not enough money to do that….sadly they let business build new ones…Town councils fault…

      • Spell Check

85% of them are Lakewood rift-raft. After Lakewood tore down their six family homes to make room for the classic lakewood townhouses. they had to move to the apartments of brick and only to get worse with time here

      • Smokin

True….just have fight back don’t let them distroy this great playground for the families to enjoy…

  • Spell Check

jjones thats called the drug addicts of your town.
These parks are our towns plan to stopping heroin.
thank god we got a grant to pay for some costs. now take the budget money you guys received from this and not put it into wasteful projects and lets rebuild this town not remodel useless parks. idk who agreed to put millions in our parks but if you have been to our parks in the last year you will see that they will just be overrun by NON-brick residents aka lakewood. just like traders cove and windward. dumb ideas mayor.

Oscar the grouch much? I haven’t seen a Lakewood Jew at Colorado Park since it re opened. Not once and I walk or bike that trail almost everyday and have for years. You strike me as the kind of person that yells at kids to get off your lawn. I hope they use the money to fix up the rest of the trail. Ya know, since rebuilding parks and trails is in essence one of the few things to rebuild in this already pretty well built town.

      • Smokin

Hey JW,..I’m stating facts…police notified …I didn’t mention Lakewood Jews…I’m just giving a heads up to trouble that has happened To let everyone one know to keep alert…and watch ..and if you see something call it in as per. Local councilmen..The security cameras are not installed yet…so we need. To be security..The police patrol regularly but can’t be there all the time…

      • Spell Check

pretty well built town? this town has made bad decisions for the last decade. look at our schools, roads? we increase our police force year by year and only have a drug and crime increase. lets prosecute criminals around here to the max. the only way to teach these people is consequences. we have 100s of heroin addicts running around our town causing crime and getting caught with a slap on the wrist . prosecute these junkies to the fullest extent of the law. rehab and hugs don’t fix this problem.

      • JW

First off, you exaggerate about the crime wave enough for me to dismiss everything you say. Second, why do you think we hire more cops? For fun? It’s because people like you complaining. Without them, it would probably be worse. The schools and roads are fine. Stop whining.

And for the record- the county prosecutes criminals for the most part, especially those arrested for most drug crimes, 95% of whom probably end up pleading guilty anyway because that’s how the system works. And with all the ‘tough on crime’ crap that this country has been addicted to for the last 30 years, we have nothing to show for it except a country behind bars for what is fundamentally a health problem. Keep being angry and ranting about nonsense. You are part of the problem with that attitude and outlook.
