The intersection of Hooper Avenue and Bay Avenue in Toms River will be closed for an “extended period of time,” Toms River Police said Thursday morning.
A tractor trailer struck one of the traffic control signals knocking it to the ground, according to police spokesman Ralph Stocco. The accident caused wires to be dislodged and initiated a power outage at the intersection.
The intersection is a heavily traveled section of roadway near the Ocean County Mall and motorists are urged to take alternate routes, Stocco said.
