An ongoing effort to collect food for the needy of the local area got a boost to the tune of 400 pounds thanks to a Brick Township event.

Community Hope of Ocean County, an organization started by Wingman Planning and Tri County Agency of Brick, two Brick businesses, has been leading the effort to support the FoodBank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties’ Thanksgiving drive throughout the fall. At a Nov. 1 event at the Brick PAL, the New Jersey Miss Amazing Pageant donated nearly 400 pounds of food through the organization.

“We can’t thank the New Jersey Miss Amazing Pageant enough for their outstanding support of our efforts to stock the shelves of The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties,” said Jacki Frank, Community Hope’s co-organizer.

Miss Amazing Inc. is a nonprofit organization that gives women of all ages the chance to shine, the Community Hope organization said. Miss Amazing pageants operate in 20 states, including New Jersey. The pageant has an interview portion, evening wear and an optional talent section, and it gives women with disabilities an opportunity to boost their self-confidence.

The New Jersey Miss Amazing Pageant was held at the Brick PAL Nov. 1, and pageant organizers asked participants to bring in canned food to support Community Hope of Ocean County and the FoodBank. The Brick event had seven “Amazing Women” entrants and they, along with their families and friends, donated 398 pounds of food.

There is still time before Thanksgiving for everyone in the community to add to the progress already made, according to organizers, as Community of Hope Ocean County has been working with 13 local businesses to get the word out to the local community about the items most in need for the food drive and to make food donation convenient in the Brick and Toms River areas.

Collection of non-perishable food for the FoodBank continues at the 13 local businesses acting as drop-off points for donations:
