Brick police are warning residents about phony fundraising solicitations in the name of the local Policemen’s Benevolent Association.

“In recent instances, companies not associated with the Brick Township Police Department or the Brick Township PBA Local 230, have solicited donations from residents and business owners while portraying themselves as members of the department,” Sgt. Henry Drew said Thursday. “In some cases, these subjects have presented themselves of belonging to several different police relief organizations.”

None of the organizations, Drew said, are affiliated with the Brick Township Police Department or the Brick Township Police PBA Local 230. In fact, Brick Township Police PBA Local 230 only solicits via mail, so residents should not donate over the phone, period.
