Motorists who travel northbound on Route 35 from Ortley Beach and points south will have to contend with an additional lane closure along the state highway, which is currently undergoing reconstruction.
The newest closure, which runs between 6th Avenue in Ortley Beach and Ortley Avenue in Lavallette, is in addition to a lane closure between an area just south of Downer Avenue in Mantoloking to Herbert Street at the Mantoloking Bridge.
On Monday the state Department of Transportation’s contractor, George Harms Construction, closed the left lane of Route 35 northbound. Traffic was shifted to the right (ocean side) side of the road, where one travel lane and a five-foot shoulder will be maintained, the DOT said in a statement.

Work within the busy Lavallette business district will be constructed in eight sections of three blocks each. Work will occur on multiple sections concurrently to advance the project as quickly as possible, however there will be a separation between work zones so that no more than three blocks in a row will be disrupted at one time, according to officials.
Parking will be available on side streets and on the left (west) side of Route 35 northbound in sections where construction is not taking place. Parking on the right (east) side of the road will not be permitted until further notice.
Variable message signs will be used to notify motorists of all traffic pattern changes. The construction in Lavallette will take place “through the spring,” the NJDOT said.
