The family of Debra and Robert Kanwisher say they remain hopeful their lost dog will be found soon.

Robert Kanwisher, 74, died in the overnight blaze on Brower Drive off Mantoloking Road in Brick June 14. His wife, Debra, 63, was able to escape. It was initially thought that the couple’s yellow Labrador retriever, Katie, also died in the fire, but investigators said no remains were found in the wreckage.

“Please pray with me that she returns to us safely,” said Carrie Schultz Ginetto, a family member, through social media. “If you know someone who recently took in a similar dog, please reach out. Our family is devastated by the fire and we NEED this dog back ASAP.”

The family believes the dog may still be in the neighborhood, which is located off the eastern portion of Mantoloking Road. They have also reached out to residents of the township’s barrier island neighborhoods in case someone spotted the dog there or took her in believing she was a stray.

Ginetto can be reached via Facebook.

Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, said there was no new information available for release on what may have caused the fire.
