Brick police identified the suspect in a case of credit card fraud at a Route 88 gas station after tips on the man’s identity quickly began rolling in after the department released surveillance footage on the web and to the media.
Robert Van Ellis Jr. was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card July 29, two days after the photos were circulated online. According to police, Ellis is accused of using a stolen credit card to purchase items at the Speedway gas station on Route 88 at about 6:20 a.m. June 20.
“Ellis gave a statement confirming his role in the credit card fraud,” said Sgt. Larry Petrola.
