Brick Township officials honored two of the township’s fire investigators and all of the members of the Brick Police EMS squad at a township council meeting Tuesday night.

Kevin Batzel and Rich Orlando, chief and assistant chief of the Brick Bureau of Fire Prevention, were both recognized for prestigious awards they received from the state. Batzel was named Fire Protection Inspector of the Year for 2016 and Orlando was named Fire Prevention Inspector of the Year for 2015.

“He is recognized around the state for his experience, knowledge and expertise in the New Jersey fire code,” said Mayor John Ducey, of Batzel, who has worked for Brick’s fire bureau since 1985.

Both Batzel and Orlando had ceremonial proclamations declaring days in their honor in the township.

Ducey also recognized Brick Police EMS members to mark National Emergency Medical Services Week.

“The EMS teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Ducey.
