An accident involving a car and a pedestrian led to the pedestrian being taken to a trauma center Wednesday night.

The accident took place at 7:30 p.m. on Route 35 in Wall, north of Allaire Road, Lt. Greg Carpino said. The on-scene investigation, Carpino said, revealed that the driver, a 48-year-old female from Brick, was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry southbound on Route 35 and struck a 56-year-old female pedestrian from Brick who was attempting to cross the roadway. The names of the two women involved were not released publicly.

The pedestrian sustained significant injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Wall Township Police EMS and Medics. Route 35 was closed to traffic for approximately three hours during the investigation.
