A Brick man has been indicted by a grand jury in Monmouth County on charges that he dumped a woman’s body in a swampy are off a Wall Township street over the summer.

The charge against Edward Ramirez, 51, of Brick, stems from the May 17, 2018 discovery of the deceased body of Jamie Leis, 35, of Toms River, in the area of Brighton Avenue and Rockefeller Drive in Wall Township. He is charged with disturbing human remains.

Wall police were called to the scene at 10:29 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a person reporting the discovery of a body wrapped in a tarp.  A subsequent investigation by local police and the county prosecutor’s office led to the arrest of Ramirez, said spokesman Chris Swendeman.

A statement from the prosecutor’s office Monday did not detail the cause of Leis’ death, however the office earlier concluded that there were no injuries present on the body when it was discovered.

If convicted, Ramirez faces a sentence of up to 10 years in a New Jersey state prison.
