A marina in Brick Township has received approval to expand its facilities with three new buildings that will be used for boat storage, service and office space.

The township’s planning board approved an application that will allow the Manasquan River Club marina, located on Riverside Drive in the Herbertsville section, to expand its operations within the bounds of the current property.

According to planning board documents, the marina is planning to construct three new structures that will add up to 30,150 square feet of space. The marina currently houses a single-story masonry building with a large area for boat storage in the rear of the building and a large parking area toward the east end of the property. There is also a bath house and swimming pool on the premises. Each individual building will measure 10,050 feet in area.

Blueprints show the buildings will be constructed in three phases. One building will offer indoor boat storage, office space, a ship’s store, shop and two office spaces. The other two buildings, the largest on the site, will be dedicated to indoor boat storage. The buildings will be 35-feet tall, which comply with the township’s zoning ordinance.

The plans for the marina went before the board for approval because the facility is located in a residential zone, though it has existed for decades and the improvements to the lot were based on a previous conditional use variance that had been granted. The area is also covered under a marina overlay zone, which allows for the marina facility to operate at its location.

The board granted several minor variances and waivers for parking area and the size of parking stalls.
