Sunday Morning Traffic Accident Claims Life of Brick Woman, Injures Two Others

A two-car accident on Lanes Mill Road in the township’s Herbertsville section resulted in a fatal injury to one woman and additional injuries to two other women, all from Brick.

The accident occurred at 9:44 a.m. Sunday between Kirk Lane and the entrance to the Greenwood Loop community, situated along Lanes Mill Road. According to a report from Brick police, Terry Penrod, 78, was driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan and Ashley Watkins, 30, was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry when the two vehicles crashed.



Patrol Officers arrived on location and learned that the passenger of the Dodge, Nancy Penrod, also 78, was not breathing. Lifesaving measures were initiated and continued by Brick Police EMS and paramedics as she was transported Ocean Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. Terry Penrod, the driver, suffered injuries to her head and extremities, and was taken by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

The driver of the Camry, Watkins, suffered injuries to her extremities and was taken to Ocean Medical Center. She was later released.

Police are still piecing together the circumstances of the accident, which shut down Lanes Mill Road for about two hours while investigators from Brick police as well as the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and prosecutor’s office investigated.

“Circumstances regarding this crash are still under investigation,” said Brick Police Sgt. Keith Donnelly.
