Authorities are investigating a stabbing that apparently occurred Monday in the parking lot of a busy shopping center in Brick Township.

According to a joint statement from Brick police and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Brick officers were called to the parking lot of the Shop-Rite location on Route 70 and Chambers Bridge Road at about 4 p.m. for a report of a man having been stabbed. The responding officers found a 44-year-old man victim with apparent stab wounds to his back. The victim, who was not identified by name, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment of his injuries where he is reported to be in critical-but-stable condition.

The statement called the probe into the incident an “active and ongoing investigation” by numerous local and county law enforcement agencies.
