Authorities are investigating a stabbing that apparently occurred Monday in the parking lot of a busy shopping center in Brick Township.
According to a joint statement from Brick police and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Brick officers were called to the parking lot of the Shop-Rite location on Route 70 and Chambers Bridge Road at about 4 p.m. for a report of a man having been stabbed. The responding officers found a 44-year-old man victim with apparent stab wounds to his back. The victim, who was not identified by name, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment of his injuries where he is reported to be in critical-but-stable condition.
The statement called the probe into the incident an “active and ongoing investigation” by numerous local and county law enforcement agencies.
“There is no danger to the public at this time, our investigation indicates this was a targeted attack against the victim,” Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in the statement. “We will release more information as it becomes available.”
Anyone in possession of information related to this investigation is being urged to contact Detective Lindsay Woodfield of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027, extension 3989, or Detective Michael Bennett of the Brick Township Police Department at 732-262-1122.
