A major motor vehicle accident which police say was caused by the driver of a pickup truck traveling, drunk, at a high rate of speed sent three victims to the hospital and caused damage to utility infrastructure and street signs, according to police.

The accident, which occurred 8 p.m. Saturday, took place near the intersection of Drum Point Road and Mandalay Road, according to Sgt. Jim Kelly. The driver of a 2019 Ford F-150, Tyler Pratt, 23, of Budd Lake, has since been charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to Kelly, the F-150, was traveling west on Drum Point Road “at a high rate of speed.” Another vehicle, an Infiniti M35 being driven by Lynnea Prunkl, 79, of Brick, was making a left onto Mandalay Road from Drum Point Road. The truck struck the rear passenger side of the Infiniti, causing it to spin and collide with a parked, unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot of Bayside Auto.

After colliding with the other car, the F-150 continued westbound on Drum Point Road, crashing into several street signs and a utility pole. The force of impact on the pole cut it in half, downing the attached power lines.

Brick Fire companies 21 and 22 responded to assist with traffic safety as JCP&L responded to repair the utility pole and lines. Traffic Safety Officer Dan Fogarty and ID Detective Brian Williams responded to investigate the crash.

Pratt was transported to Ocean Medical Center for injuries to his face. Prunkl and her passenger, Fay Novoshelski, 78, of Brick, were also transported to Ocean Medical Center for injuries described as pain to their chests, necks and along the right side of their bodies.

Police said they are still investigating the accident. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to the crash is asked to contact Traffic Safety Officer Dan Fogarty at 732-262-1141.
