The Brick Township planning board on Wednesday night provided unanimous approval to an abridged site plan that will convert a former funeral home to an office building.

The Colonial Funeral Home location on Sally Ike Road is now owned by Sheer Services LLC, a national general contractor and facilities management company that is based in Florida. Sheer’s representatives went before the board Wednesday night seeking approval for a simple application: changing the use of the building from a funeral home to office space, and undertaking interior renovations.

The exterior of the building, an aptly-named colonial-style structure, will remain as is. No onsite-construction will take place, and the existing lighting and exterior features will remain in place. No new signs will be placed at the site – the existing signs for the funeral home will simply be replaced with similar signs indicating Sheer’s logo.

The property takes up 1.17 acres off Sally Ike Road, located behind the Brick American youth baseball league. The board approved the application unanimously after just a 20-minute-long hearing.
